ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Federico Otero is an Industrial Designer and Interactive Designer from Latin America. Born in Lima, Peru, Otero started his career as a designer in his natal city at the PUCP. He then moved to the US and continued his studies at Purdue University. After working for several years as a lead designer for Delta Faucet Company as well as for Brizo, and as a freelance designer for Marcus Koepke’s Design Studio, he decided to further his education at Domus Academy in Milan earning his Masters in Interactive Design.
His contributions to design include a wide spectrum that ranges from lighting, furniture, faucets and accessories, luxury products, packaging, exhibits, and interiors. His design talent took him to Switzerland where he was designing watches for Tag Heuer.
Currently he is freelancing in diverse design areas. Most recently he obtained the Interior Innovation Design Award from the German Design Council for his fireplace line designed for Cocoon Fires. He has exhibited in the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum as a result of being one of the ten finalists chosen worldwide in the New York City Bicycle Rack Design Competition. He was also selected to represent Latin America as one of the designers for BID 2008, the first Ibero American Design Biennale that took place in Madrid.
Otero’s work has been recognized in the business realm, academia and the press. His work has been featured internationally in magazines including Interni, Vogue, Metropolis and Interior Design. He has been published in “The best of CASA COR” year book featuring interior designs from Brasil, Sweden, Panama and Peru. His “CATACAOS” fixture designed for BOYD Lighting obtained the Best of Year Award for Decorative Lighting honored by Interior Design Magazine. “LA REINA” fixture designed for BOYD Lighting won Best of NeoCon Silver Award for Decorative Lighting.
